The Rotary Club of Hilo and the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation hosted the inaugural Brewfest on June 1 at the Wainaku Executive Center. The Brewfest offered samples of 40 different beers, both local and from the mainland.

Sixty percent of the funds were donated to the Hilo Medical Center Foundation for the residency program, and the remaining amount will be used by the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation for projects to improve the community and projects overseas.

On Sept. 6, the Rotary Club of Hilo formally presented Lori Rogers, Hilo Medical Center Foundation executive director, with a check for $13,574 to further the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Primary Care Training Program.

“We Rotarians want the best for our community and good medical services in Hilo will ensure that the community has good health care. The community’s support of our fundraising for this program sends a message to our legislature that we feel this is vital to our community,” President Kerry Glass said.

The hospital foundation congratulated the Rotary Club of Hilo and the Hilo Rotary Club Foundation for the success of Brewfest. Rogers thanked Rotarian Bob Hanley for the idea and Ed Olson for the location to host the event. Rogers also thanked the Rotary Club of Hilo for its donation to the Hilo Medical Center Foundation in order to help continue to promote the residency program.

“Through past events, the Rotary Club of Hilo has been consistently devoted to helping fund this statewide residency program, and we cannot express enough our gratitude to this wonderful group of community members,” Rogers said.
